James Clark, CEM (Senior Energy Consultant)

Professional Profile & Responsibilities

Mr. Jim Clark is an expert in the areas of energy management and conservation, energy technology and the application of integration technologies, and energy master planning. His experience ranges from the development of performance contracts, combined heat and power plants, and a multitude of energy systems. His work includes evaluating technical and financial feasibility, calculating energy and operational savings, and finding unique solutions to turn around projects and training technical staff.

Selected Project Experience

Atlantic City Casinos, Atlantic City, NJ

Developed energy efficiency projects at five casinos.  Calculated energy savings and estimated project costs for preliminary project approval.  Projects included lighting, variable speed drives, building automation system (BAS) controls upgrades. Designed a unique solution that solved building pressurization and airflow issues that existed at all five locations since originally constructed, thus increasing comfort and saving energy.

Connelly Container, Philadelphia, PA

Designed and built a 500 KW combined heat and power plant at the paper mill. Created a custom-designed and fabricated heat exchanger to increase paper production and utilize the systems waste heat to pre-heated pulp water.  Additionally, re-engineered system components to increase runtime by 10%.

Penn State University, State College PA

Conducted Equipment Inventory and Energy Audits of 25 Buildings. Developed a strategy to centralize the building automation system (BAS) and a load drop plan for the PJM Demand Response Capacity Program, which was later expanded to 54 additional buildings in the second phase.

ATT/Bell South

Managed a team of engineers that performed energy audits at 42 central switching buildings.

Professional Profile & Responsibilities

Mr. Brecc Avellar has an incredible amount of experience in the energy efficiency field. His work includes project design-build, finance, mergers/acquisitions, and operation for clients throughout the world who are interested in traditional energy production (oil/gas-fired) and alternative energy (solar, ethanol, biodiesel, waste-derived).

When you are looking for an experienced executive project leader of design-build solutions in energy conservation, renewable energy, and specialty fuels, he is the man to trust.

Selected Project Experience

CHP Asset Manager

Managed the operations of numerous central utility plants, combined heat and power (CHP) and co-generation plants, as well as performance contract guaranteed annual savings of over $500 million. Some of the plants included:  7 MW US Army Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Edgewood MD; 15 MW US Navy Naval Station Norfolk (NSN), Virginia; 7 MW US Department of Commerce (NIST), Gaithersburg MD.

Jamaica Flour Mills, Kingston Jamaica

Led the investment-grade audit and engineering design and electric interconnection negotiations for a 4MW propane-fired power station.

Englewood Hospital, Englewood New Jersy

Participated in the investment-grade audit and preliminary design/pricing for a 4 MW cogeneration plant.

Government of Egypt

Through a Public-Private Partnership, led the development of a series of waste-to-energy plants for the rendering of plastic waste to fuel oil for power generation.

Government of Iraq

Participated in the investment-grade audit, design, site logistics planning and bid package development and presentation for a 125 MW heavy fuel oil-fired power station.

Caroline McCallum, CEM (Grant Writer)

Professional Profile & Responsibilities

Excelling in engaging clients and others through written and oral communications, Caroline has broad experience pursuing grant funding (both federal and state), utility incentives, and tax credits. In fact, she has successfully secured more than $2.4M in grant funding for her clients.

An experienced technical writer, Caroline has been recognized throughout the nation for her newsletter editing numerous times. This makes her perfect for managing your expectations and keeping you informed throughout the grant application process. She also specializes in pairing project funding sources that work together to drive down energy costs.

Selected Project Experience

Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation

The Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation is an independent 501(c)(3) organization that works to promote the use of alternative transportation fuels, in order to maximize our environmental, energy, and economic security. Caroline is proud to be the Chairman of the Board and has helped the nonprofit entity receive more than $30M in grant funding, offsetting more than four million gallons of diesel per year.

City of Philadelphia CNG Refuse Hauler Development Project

In order to help the transition of Philadelphia's municipal fleets to CNG, Caroline led a successful grant writing effort, as well as managing (and giving technical expertise to) a program that worked toward this goal.

This project team successfully used a $2M US Department of Transportation CMAQ grant to purchase 40 garbage trucks. An extensive project, it involved significant outreach and educational efforts, as well as a large number of public and private stakeholders in the city government and local utilities.

New York State Low Carbon Listening Sessions, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation

Caroline served as an outreach consultant for a project that worked to engage with the public through a series of listening sessions in Western and Central New York. As a key outreach member of this team, she worked hand-in-hand with the Transportation and Climate Initiative.

These meetings helped develop regional electric vehicle planning guidelines, identified concerns regarding EV impacts and policies, and developed siting guidelines and model building codes, permitting, and zoning rules.

Philadelphia Gas Works, NGV Program Manager

Caroline worked within this utility to improve their internal fleet conversion program, managing both the successful adoption of vehicles and fueling equipment.

By presenting life-cycle and financial projections with the internal working group and C-Suite, she gained the support of the program. She also secured $250,000 in grant funding, managed the communications of the team, and implemented the vehicles within various departments of the company.

P3NGV, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission

Working in coordination with the DVRPC, EPACT, PA DEP, and PECO, Caroline developed and delivered workshops, informational materials, and technical assistance for municipalities who were considering adoption of NGVs into their refuse and recycling collection fleet, as well as school districts considering adoption of NGV's into their bus fleets. The program was designed and administered with the support of CMAQ funding.
